“If at all I enjoy film-making, it is because I can tackle bitter social issue truths - whether it was Chandni Bar, Satta, Page 3, Corporate or Traffic Signal” said Madhur Bhandarkar about his work in a humour & honesty filled master-class with over 200 students of Whistling Woods International, Institute for Film TV Animation and Media Arts. He spoke candidly about the techniques he uses to get up-close to the realities of society and how he chooses stories from therein.

In the highly technical master-class, students appreciated his reality-based approach to Page 3 & Traffic Signal and were intrigued about how he manages to make high-concept, low-budget films. They were also inspired by his journey from a video-cassette delivery boy in Bandra to one of the most sought-after film-makers in India and more-importantly, creator of a completely unique, never-seen-before style of film-making.

Madhur encouraged students to develop skills whereby they are able to observe people around them going about their everyday existence and therein look for nuances which could be translated into dramatic film-making.

Madhur further added, “From the students’ questions, I can gauge the high quality of education they receive at this unique educational institution which is providing a level of education which India has historically never experienced. This school will go a long way in creating the next generation of brilliant film-makers.”
