Screen taste - He is called the Showman of the industry. - April 16th 2006

He is called the Showman of the industry. So whatever Subhash Ghai does, he does in style, like the recent setting up of his film institute called Whistling Woods International in Film City, Mumbai. To promote the institute, his daughter and director of business development, Mukta Arts, Meghna Ghai Puri was in town yesterday along with Kurt Inderbitzin, well-known film producer for Los Angeles and the dean of Whistling Woods.

“We are trying to promote cinema on the whole. The few institutes that we have are hardly enough to cater to a population as huge as ours. We have kept the fees structure in a way that the institute is available to students coming from not-so well-to-do families. That’s because we believe that talent can be found anywhere, “said Puri while elaborating on her mission.

Inderbitzin, in his turn said, “India is growing and has easily become a place to reckon with. The road is only uphill from here. Indian cinema, music, clothes, education are being recognized globally now. It was this interesting fact that pushed me to promote Indian culture is an absolutely fascinating idea.”

We think so too. And who knows, tomorrow, some aspiring students from our city may enroll with them and find a foothold in the industry.

The institute is formally opening on July 15 this year.
