Translating thoughts, ideas and talents into words!

Whistling Woods International (WWI) organizes scriptwriting workshop in association with Script Factory UK, British Council from March 29th to April 2nd at Mumbai.

Mumbai, March 2005:

" You need three things to make a good movie - a good script, a good script and a good script. "

So said renowned filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock. In realization of this crucial component that indisputably exists as the true bedrock of any successful film, the Whistling Woods International Institute for Film, Television & Media Arts in collaboration with the British Council is organizing a training initiative for scriptwriters from 29th March - 2nd April 2005.

Aimed at upcoming screenwriters and individuals who work closely with scriptwriters like producers and script editors, 'Script work and advanced screenwriting', the 2-part 5-day workshop will be conducted by The Script Factory (UK), Europe's leading organization working to support screenwriters & develop new screenwriting talent. The workshop will pool the insights and talents of groups of senior writers, directors and upcoming writers to share their learning, ideas and consolidate contextually the inputs received.

Script work and advanced screenwriting is designed to support the professional development of screenwriters and seeks to place the writer and their script - the product - in the industrial context. Every aspect of the course includes the consideration of the audience, both the audience for the script as well as the eventual cinema audience.

The workshop includes practical writing exercises to help writers to examine in depth their initial idea. It will help define the story that they really want to tell and to generate the layers of conflict that will sustain the drama for the duration of screen time. It aims to support writers to find what is meaningful to them and thereby assists to make that meaningful to an audience. So, alongside the practical work, there will be a lecture series on 'theory'; asking how does the writer shape that story into one that will find an audience and consider ways of honing the screenplay into a crafted product that has the potential to attract interest from producers and funders. New screenwriters are generally under-confident in presenting themselves as screenwriters, and a key component of the course is in developing the skills and self-belief to approach the domestic industry effectively.
