National Handloom Day is celebrated to commemorate the contribution of the handloom and weavers in the development of the country. Savitha Suri, textile enthusiast and author in handloom expertise curated the

Handloom Day event at Whistling Woods International, accompanied by Sabira Fernandes, Content Writer and a Brand Strategist. The students of WWI School of Performing Arts - Music Production & Composition, and WWI School of Creative Arts - Fashion Design, collaborated to display a live exhibition of textiles produced all over India and explained their authenticities in a creative representation, at the event held at WWI to celebrate National Handloom Day.

Some of the textiles were sashes, stoles, and accessories. The curated textiles showcased at the live exhibition incorporated the following:

  • Tangaliya (extra weft)
  • Thikma, Sungudi, Bandhani (Tie & Dye traditions from across the country)
  • Odisha Ikat, (Odisha)
  • Tribal textiles (Assam)
  • Bagh (Madhya Pradesh)
  • Pedana (Andhra Pradesh)
  • Kasavu (Kerala)
  • Maheshwari Ikat (Madhya Pradesh)
  • Kunbi (Goa)
  • Bawan Buti (Bihar)
