Workshop by Gaurav Gadgil (12th and 13th February 2026)
The workshop led by Gaurav Gadgil (Associate Professor & I/c Director, School of Civilisation Studies, Somaiya Vidyavihar University) grounded students in the historical foundations of colonialism. Moving beyond a conventional history lesson, Gadgil unpacked imperialism and decolonisation, examining European interventions in India alongside India’s influence on European thought. Students learned to “read” historical narratives and uncover embedded hierarchies in various media pieces across decades as well. The workshop prepared them to approach media as a critical tool for socio-historical documentation.
