The Rise of OTT Platforms in India Will Offer Students New Opportunities to Explore and Excel
~ An exclusive masterclass with the team of JL50 at Whistling Woods International ascertained this thought ~

Mumbai, November 01, 2021: As per a recent report, India is one of the fastest-growing market for streaming platforms, also known as OTT (Over-The-Top) platforms. With an annual growth rate of 28.6%, the OTT market in India is expected to become the sixth largest by 2024, overtaking the said industry in several other countries.

India is the largest producer of films across the globe and with the rise in the digital content platforms, there is a huge demand for skilled talent. There is a massive need for new, unique, and fresh talents to bring in inventiveness and spontaneity to the content that is being produced and the way the industry is run.

This thought was discussed and ascertained at the recently organised exclusive masterclass at Whistling Woods International, Asia’ premier film, communication & creative arts institute. The insightful masterclass hosted the esteemed team of the sci-fi thriller, JL50. The panel consisted of Piyush Mishra, actor; Shailender Vyas, writer-director; Ritika Anand, actor-producer and Devendra Gandhi, executive producer. The session was moderated by Chaitanya Chinchlikar, Vice President, WWI, who led the interactive session.

Though the session commenced with each member sharing their thoughts and experiences regarding the making of JL50, they further discussed regarding the widened spectrum of content and the role of emerging OTT platforms. Piyush Mishra shared, “Content entry is needed in today’s time, especially for particular movies, where long-format content is needed. Writers will find OTT as a great platform as they can express their stories and ideas with great ease.” He further emphasised on the fact that just like the writers, OTT platforms will offer new and better opportunities for new directors, cinematographers, and skilled talents in every department of filmmaking.

As the session concluded, Devendra Gandhi, who is also an alumnus of WWI, highlighted his journey from being a student at WWI to an industry professional. He advised the current students to follow their first intuition once they finish their formal education as it will be the best and correct decision for their respective careers.

Like Devendra Gandhi, several alumni of Whistling Woods International have gone on to create a niche for themselves in the Hindi film and emerging OTT industry. Some of the prominent projects WWI alumni were associated with which released on various OTT platforms include Cargo, Scam 1992, Dil Bechara, Dharan, Masaba Masaba, Serious Men, Mirzapur 2, Ludo, Tandav, Tribhanga, Khuda Hafiz, Ajeeb Daastaans, Joji, Family Man, Ray, Sherni, Maharani, Toofan, Mimi, Shershaah, Haseen Dilruba, June (Marathi), Mumbai Diaries 26/11, Ankahi Kahaniya to name a few.
